What time does the trip start?
We leave Nilaveli beach at sunrise, when the sea is usually calmest. Sunrise changes through the year, so we confirm the exact meeting time with your booking.
How long is the trip?
About 2 hours from leaving the beach to returning.
Will we definitely see whales?
No one can promise that. Whales and dolphins are wild, and sightings depend on their behaviour, the weather and the sea. Spinner dolphins are seen on many trips; whales are less predictable.
When is the whale watching season in Trincomalee?
Roughly March to October, when the east coast is usually calmer. See our season guide.
How much does it cost?
Shared boat: €25 per adult and €18 per child. Private boat: €100–€185 for 1–7 guests. See all prices.
What is included?
Boat and fuel, captain, spotter, life jackets, drinking water and a safety briefing. Not included: hotel transfers, food, tips and personal expenses.
Can children come?
Yes. Child-size life jackets are provided and an adult must hold small children at all times. Please tell us your children’s ages when you book. Read our safety guide.
What if I get seasick?
Morning seas are usually calmer, but swell is possible. If you are prone to seasickness, take tablets before departure as the packet directs, eat a light breakfast and look at the horizon.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The captain checks the sea before every trip. We never go out in conditions we judge unsafe. If a trip can’t go ahead, we contact you straight away by WhatsApp.
How do I book and pay?
Send a request on our booking page or on WhatsApp. We confirm your boat by WhatsApp and email, together with the meeting point and time.
Can we swim with whales or dolphins?
No. Guests stay on board at all times, to protect the animals and you. Read our responsible watching code.
What should I bring?
Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, water, light clothing, a camera, a waterproof phone pouch and seasickness tablets if you need them.
